An outdoor deck is an engaging place for friends and families to gather in the warm weather. Elevated decks give a refreshing view of the backyard but leave unsightly, dark areas underneath. A little bit of creativity can turn that under deck area into useful spaces. For instance, the space under deck is ideal for storing items to protect or just to get them out of the way. From children’s toys to lawn equipment it is a simple matter to attach a tarp underneath the deck to protect the items from the weather and slide the items underneath. You can easily close in the space and place a door somewhere so that you can easily access your stored items. Applying a layer of gravel will keep the area neat and dry. Or you can use this space as the ultimate play area for kids.
It allows them to still play outside even when the weather’s bad and allows them a small amount of privacy for make-believe games. Outfit the under deck area with astroturf or any other kind of artificial covering so that kids can sit and play. Set up a hammock and perhaps a small, safe rock-climbing wall against the side of the house. Hang a tire swing and a punching bag and paint the area myriad youthful, vibrant colors.
