Refined Victorian Style Furniture

Victorian style furniture falls under an umbrella that encompasses multiple revival styles. Like our own era, in which overseas production provides a plethora of inexpensive style knock-offs, an expansion of native manufacturing in the Victorian era produced a wide range of affordable furniture choices in styles including Egyptian Revival, Greek Revival, Gothic Revival, Renaissance Revival, Eastlake and Rococo. Victorian style furniture feature intricate carvings and designs. Many of the wood pieces were hand carved with nature-inspired designs. During the turn of the century, innovations such as chiseling tools were used to create many of the styles. One of the most popular pieces of Victorian style furniture was the rocking chair. In the following years, the rocker was updated and created to be more functional.

Victorian style furniture may be constructed of various materials, though wood is most common. Walnut and mahogany wood were most commonly used during this era. Fabrics used in Victorian items may be jacquard, leather, chenille, or velvet, to name a few. There are beautiful hand finishes and intricate carvings on these pieces that reflect the era of perfection and art that may never come back again. With our busy and stressful lives today, by having Victorian style furniture, you can at least cherish those sweet moments that passed by long ago.
