Since the kitchen tends to be one of the most heavily trafficked rooms in a house, make it a mood-lifting space. Using bright, cheerful yellow kitchen colors will make any kitchen more inviting. Dandelions, corn, butter, beach sand or honey all have very different hues and yet are all shades of yellow. Your goal with yellow kitchen colors should be to create a harmonious room that will look appropriate for years to come. One way to create a yellow kitchen is to use bold, yellow cabinets. If you choose to use yellow cabinets in the kitchen, remember that the shade you choose will dominate the room. If using a very bright color, consider using a matte finish paint, rather than a high gloss or enamel to avoid making the cabinets overwhelmingly bright. If you choose not to use yellow cabinets, select a cabinet color that complements or works well with the yellow color you will use elsewhere. Some cabinet tones that work well with yellow include white, cream, cherry, natural oak and clear maple.
The backsplash is another visible component of any kitchen design. Create either a solid-colored yellow backsplash for a bold look, or scatter handmade and handpainted yellow accent tiles through a cream-colored background for a more subtle look. The flooring in a yellow kitchen should be one of the last considerations. If you decide to use a natural wood tone cabinet in a yellow kitchen, such as cherry, oak or maple, consider using the same color of hardwood flooring to complement the rest of the yellow tones. If not, select a floor color that will highlight the yellow, such as dark gray, terracotta or a natural stone such as travertine or slate.
