Even in the largest of homes, sometimes there is just not enough storage space. Whether you need a place for seasonal items or a space for daily items, closets and attics might not provide the area necessary. Under stair storage can relieve household clutter and make an empty space a storage safe haven. There are several under stair storage ideas for you. First, if you have the time and talent to construct your own shelving you can install a full-on closet, with pull-out drawers on tracks plus custom shelves and doors, beneath the stairs. Or for a simpler take on the custom closet, install a dowel rod beneath the stairs at an angle, paralleling the slope of the staircase. Hot-glue large beads along the top of the dowel at intervals to act as “stoppers” for your hangers or hanging organizers.
For a more affordable solution, use under stair storage cubbies that are deliberately lopsided to make the best use of your under-stair space. You can also assemble your own “lopsided” cubbies out of wire mesh squares and plastic connectors, or place a basket on top of regular cubbies to use up that extra space. Don’t forget to anchor those storage cubbies to the wall.
